Ballet

Ballet is the basis of all dance styles. It helps students to achieve balance, control, strength and discipline. It is a form of dance that is graceful with "Pirouettes" (turns) and "Grand Jetes" (leaps) and includes base of theatrical dance through Mime and Demi Character work. Such productions for example would be "Sleeping Beauty" or "Swan Lake".

Classes start in Test 1 and continue through to Advanced with the Avril Binzer Performance Award and Scholarships, if eligible through examination.

 

Jazz

Jazz incorporates all styles from modern, historical, funk and lyrical. Students will be educated in safe dance techniques. If students wish to proceed and complete all levels available they will emerge as well rounded dancers who, if wishing to seek a profession in dance, have been prepared for professional auditions.

 

Tap - Traditional or Street

Students will be introduced o the fine art of tap dancing. With a traditional method of teaching as the basis, students will graduate to a style incorporating street/funk tap as produced with "Tap Dogs" and "Raw Metal" but still have the fundamentals of a traditional tapper such as 'Gene Kelly'. Classes are offered separately in both styles.
 

Pre-School

Our pre-school classes have been developed to introduce children between the ages of 3 and 4 to the element of dance through play and creativity. Classes cater for girls and boys who will be sure to leave at the end of a class with a smile on their face and a dance in their soul.

 

Breakdance

Breakdance aka "breakin" or "b-boyin / b-girlin" is one of the four elements of hip hop culture. Originating from the South Bronx, New York City in the early 1970's, it has since become one of the most popular forms of hip hop dance. Breakin is a very unique dance form with a strong focus on freestyle and originality.

This class will teach you the basic foundations - Top Rocks, Drops, Footwork, Power Moves and Freezes, giving you the ability to develop personal style and originality. This is an open class offered to anyone at any skill level.

 

Fitness / Circuit Training

These classes incorporate aerobic exercise with weight and resistance training, in a circuit format. Many stations are used, from weights to skipping with litle rest between, thus promoting cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance.

An increasingly popular form of workout, so please be early. BYO drink bottle and towel. This class is open to anyone interested in increasing their fitness.

 

Hip Hop / Street

Hip Hop and Street is made up of various different styles from modern jazz to funk, from break to pop locking, with these styles playing a vital part to keep straight street going. Generally, a street dance is based on a unique style or feel that are expressed through the dance, usually tied to a certain genre of music. As new moves evolve based on this feel, the dance is under constant development.

DancElements incorporates all of the styles in street including uptempo moves, new school rnb and basics of break. Junior / Intermediate and Advanced classes are offered.

 
Acrobatics
Acrobatics is a great way for students to learn balance and co-ordination along with flexibility and strength. Students learn and perform dynamic tricks such as handsprings, walkovers, arials and roundoffs.
